Jake Peavy Quotes (76 Quotes)

There's no doubt this team shouldn't be out in the second round.

I've never had a better feeling in my life. It was the coolest thing I have ever done when Team USA took the field today.

Some guys come out of the chute and do well in spring training, so he's certainly capable. I don't think he'll get four balls the first time up, but he's definitely earned our respect.

Unbelievable. It's one of those things that it's just the way it's going. I hope I'm getting everything out of the way this year.

I don't think my emotions are going to get the best of me. I have a lot of excitement, a lot of adrenaline, but in the four years I've been here, I've learned to channel it in the right way.

Everybody now sees how good international baseball is. It's going to be a long three years waiting for this to come around again.

I hurt it originally Wednesday night, jumping up and down during the celebration,

We know we have what it takes to win the division. Both those teams (San Francisco, L.A.) would tell you that. We're as good as anybody. I don't think those two teams are overlooking us. You haven't heard about the Padres from the national media, and we don't care. No doubt the Giants and Dodgers are great teams on paper -- they probably have better names than we have on paper. But that doesn't always get it done.

We played well at times. We didn't play that well at times, ... But that's how this team was all year. We didn't play well enough to beat a World Series-caliber team like the St. Louis Cardinals.

I can't say he's going to go out there and be tired Tuesday and not make pitches, because I've had a chance to be around him and I know him well enough to know that his adrenaline is going to be flowing as much as mine. He's going to be executing pitches and giving his team a shot to win the game.

I mean, I just felt like I could make a good pitch and get him out. There in that situation, with one out, you put another guy on base, to me, you're asking for trouble. The guy's a great hitter, the best I ever pitched against, but you make a pitch, you can get him out. I felt confident in my ability to make that that pitch. I didn't want to put any more guys on base.

That's what we're capable of doing. I know we're going to play a lot better than we have been.

Obviously, there's been a lot of stuff said negatively about the tournament. But when you put this uniform on and you hear your national anthem, there's a lot of pride involved. ... There's no doubt that this is something I'll look back on for the rest of

I'm not going to be stupid. But I don't intend to walk him every time I face Bonds. What I do will depend on the situation. I'll get him at times, and he'll get me at times.

I just appreciate that we had some docs who took care of me.

There's no doubt people were critical of this from Day 1, but this was an awesome event. There were 30 guys on that (U. S.) team who will be hard to kick out of that locker room. I think it took a lot of people by surprise how intense it was and how good the baseball was.

I'm getting crushed for eating green beans out of a can and not fresh beans. But I'm going to tell you something You can't go wrong with Mama's beans -- out of a can or fresh. They're good, all slathered in bacon grease ...

I feel sick to my stomach. You hate to see anybody get injured, but it's especially tough to see this happen to Adam. I've known him as long as I've known anybody in baseball. It's the same thing he did with us last season. He was out two months.

I've been watching that magic number, waiting for it to get down to two,

I threw good on the side, but I never thought it would be like it was.

There was a sharp pain I was feeling that was a cause for concern,

I want to get more sound. I want to be more in tune with my body and my mechanics, to cut down on my mistakes. Look at Roger Clemens and Randy Johnson. People talk about them being power pitchers, but they throw the ball where they want 95 percent of the time.

It was so good to get on the mound and feel how I did today, ... I didn't have all my strength, but that's normal when you've taken some time off. I was about 80 to 90 percent on some pitches, with no pain on any pitch.

We don't want to walk out there and get embarrassed. This is our national pastime. When you have your country's name across your chest, it's on.

It was just sitting perfect, I pushed into it and it was like a razor blade. The green beans weren't worth it last night. Thank the good Lord it was the left hand.

I can't tell you all the things Paul did for this ballclub. I hate to see him go. And he didn't go unnoticed. I think everyone in here felt the loss.

I'm not feeling too good right now ... but I can smile tonight with less pain than I would have if we'd lost this game.

This is probably the coolest thing I've ever done on a baseball field. To be with this group of guys, have a chance to represent my country in America's pastime, I can't put into words what it means to me.

We didn't do our job, ... We never gave ourselves a very good chance to win, because we failed at what we're best at. You can't give a baseball team like that such an early lead and expect to beat them.

It's been a little bothersome, but nothing we thought would get in the way of me today, ... Trying to turn it up, there were some issues.

Hopefully, those can make me feel a whole lot better than I feel right now and I'll get back out there.

I was excited. I knew the biggest thing for me was not letting my emotions get out of control.

I can't tell you the amount of pride you have when you put that uniform on with all of America watching. Tommy Lasorda said it (Tuesday) morning. When the Dodgers win a game, Dodger fans are happy. America is our fans. We have a pretty big fan base, and we don't want to let those guys down.

My head is spinning. I just felt terrible overall, but you have to really give our training staff credit. And look at Giles. He's the gamer. Giles is the guy who really came through here.

We've been in the driver's seat for so long now, that if we lose this thing, it's not going to be because Barry Bonds came back and the Giants all of a sudden made a run. It's because we gave this thing away. It's ours to win. If we go out night in and night out and play the baseball we're supposed to play, the division is over.

That's why I think Roger Clemens is the best pitcher ever. In the era he's been pitching, nothing has been done to benefit the pitcher.

This was a big, big night for the boys. Let's hope we come out tomorrow with the same intensity and try to win this series.

That's the first time I had it handed to me in a long time. You want to get back out there against that team and show them what you are made of and that you are capable of beating them.

That's how insignificant we thought it was.

That's the way you have to play in the playoffs. You battle, get some timely hits, make the plays defensively, find a way to win. Play fundamentally sound baseball and don't beat yourself. I like it.

Those guys know that when you step on the baseball field, friendship is out the door. I'm going to do everything I can to get them out.

We definitely didn't want to be under .500. We felt embarrassed when we played the way we did. But this team is back playing the baseball that we know we can play.

I think they're very important. Obviously you don't want to tax your body. You get in the heat of battle and you're going to want to stay in there when you probably shouldn't.

Talk about playing in pain -- look at this guy over there. That's what happens when you pour your heat and soul into it. Most guys are going to miss a couple weeks with the kind of bruise he has. We've got some gamers in here.
