    I have lived all over this country and in several foreign countries but I had never tried urban living. When we'd visit our daughter in Portland, we'd have so much fun on the weekends. We didn't have to get in the car to go to the fish market, the bakery, the coffee shop, the farmer's market. We'd walk all weekend and never have to get in a car. It was so much fun. I thought that since we're going to be staying in Staunton, this project was our chance to give urban living a try.

    Until we moved to Staunton, I never lived anywhere for more that two years. To be in Staunton 30 years is incredible, much less living in the same house for 25 years.

    We found ourselves walking downtown nearly every day last year. That's how we decided we wanted to live downtown.

    I just loved the way her space looked. I guess I hadn't realized it until now, but I can definitely say she was part of the reason I thought this would be fun.

    When I look out in the morning when we get up, I feel like I live in Paris. I look out over the rooftops and it seems like I live in a different city. I can't believe that moving 2 miles from my old home could possibly make me feel this different about my life right now. It's incredible.


    We'd walk those 2 miles from the house and found it was just so much fun being down here. We didn't want to leave.

    His idea of good living was to finally have a wonderful big garage. I had to convince him to give it a chance.
