Bob Melvin Quotes (221 Quotes)

Other than Klesko's home run, I thought he did a nice job for us. I thought it was a nice effort out of him. I really did.

Arizona Troy Glaus hit his 33rd and 34th homers off sinkerball pitcher Aaron Cook. He makes it hard on a lowball pitcher, because he is a good lowball hitter, ... He can lift the ball with the arc that he does and the strength he has can hit a home run.

We got down so quick, double digits it certainly doesn't make for a lot of enthusiasm when you are up there trying to battle. He (Estes) got his pitches up and his balls were running off the plate a little bit. Their guy threw a lot of cutters today. that was his pitch today.

The game was played out as advertised. (Andy) Pettitte pitched well, Webb pitched well. One or two hits our way instead of their way and you have yourself a victory.

He's throwing cutters. He's throwing into left-handers, throwing changeups to left-handers, and it used to be just sinkers and changeups away for effect and go back out there. He's pitching in a lot more and he's manipulating the baseball off his fastball.

You know Gonzo. He's not going to say anything to anybody (about feeling ill). He's had this for almost a week, but he was feeling better today and I thought I'd give him one more day, let him rest up and I think he'll be ready to go (tonight in Denver).

It certainly gets your heart fluttering.

When you have an opportunity like that, off a pitcher like that, it can be pretty demoralizing. But Claudio goes right back out there and shuts them down.

We hope that he regains the form that you saw in year's past and that last year was an aberration. That's what we're hoping and that's what he expects.

We feel like we have quite a few weapons down there.

Kelly's done well. It's going to have to be an organizational decision that we'll have to talk about after the season. Kelly has certainly done enough to deserve a look to come back. It depends on what kind of roster space we have at the end of the year.

We're still in a position where we don't think we're out of it. We haven't had a great year, but if you look at it, we're 6 12 games back at this point in time in the season and you still feel like you've got a chance.

He gets another two-out hit with a runner at second. We've seen him do that so many times.

I think Saturday will go a long way in how he actually feels going into the season. The number of pitches won't be a problem, it's just the amount of times that he's been out there where he feels comfortable with his mechanics and so forth is going to be the main thing with him.

He passed a lot of guys by. I tried to impress upon him that he's got to feel good about that. Having said that, you are where you are, you feel like you've made it and then you have that conversation, I'm sure it's a disappointment.

This is a team that could have called it in quite some time ago. We just aren't going to, all the way to the end we won't.

Both the guys deserve to be on the team. One of them won't be, which is too bad because they've both pitched well enough to make the club.

You look at his numbers this year at Triple-A and they're just phenomenal. He's well deserving of the award. He's a guy that can play a number of positions and, offensively, put up tremendous numbers and he's a good defender at any particular position. This is a guy who, even in a non-everyday role, can help any big league club.

They didn't get any hits off him. He's lighting that radar gun up to 95 or 96 mph, cutting through their lineup and giving up no hits. Everything you've heard about him, we certainly saw yesterday.

It's good that he gets the fruits of his labor. Nobody works harder than he does.

I'm not going to tell you what goes on in those meetings. But he's disappointed, and he has every right to be.
