I remember so clearly,
the woman at the well
challenging the One
with immediate questions,
thinking in the now,
what she wanted, asked for
was ephemeral, fleeting,
would evaporate, literally
He offered more, so much more
but she could not see
no more than the Pharisees, the scribes
those versed in the law
He was new wine, she was an old skin
and all she wanted
was the bucket, the drink
of plain water
