After getting home
driving in the gossamer snow
the dance of the crystals
falling in the air
accumulating on the roads
Sitting in my office
watching the snow falling
outside my window
trying to name the way
in which the flakes fell
Seeming to fall
like bits of potato flakes
sifted from about the curtain of the day
so light while in the air
but landing, sticky like cotton candy
that has warmed upon the ground
Beautiful, falling
constellations of flakes
like chemical chains,
all the elements in white
Light flakes but not alone
falling as individuals
dancing alone on the descent to earth
Connected, bits of cut taffeta
white fabric, frayed edges
spinning to the ground
