Paneled walls,
formal distances, raised dais
bifurcated space, Hatfields and McCoys,
bride and groom
Peculiar pews, wide oak
masculine pews,
held rows, clusters really
of suits, pin-stripes,
conservative ties, white
and blues pressed shirts
waiting furtively, false patience
ritual space, defined roles
players on this solemn stage
billed hourly, justice meted out
in starched words, by black-robed pens
if it pleases the court
