On summer evenings, the king’s daughter is liable to
pass.
The pebbles keep a sharp eye.
The switchman goes home to bed. His beard catches fire.
The puppeteer offers him smelling-salts.
It’s clear again, with sulphur of bat, in the lower
room where the inn-keeper’s straw mattress mildews.
