The little song Virginia sings has such a happy ring!
We always stop to listen when we hear the baby sing.
At first we couldn’t understand or catch a single word,
Though in her own sweet tune and time she carolled like a bird:
“If your heart keeps right,
If your heart keeps right,
Every cloud will wear a rainbow
If your heart keeps right.”
No matter what the skies may be above her careless head,
She always gets up singing when she tumbles out of bed.
At breakfast in her high chair, beating time with one small foot,
Such bubbling notes of joyousness into those words she’ll put:
“If your heart keeps right,
If your heart keeps fight,
Every cloud will wear a rainbow
If your heart keeps right.”
Virginia’s griefs are just as real as yours and mine, no doubt,
And yet the little minx will sing before her cry is out.
And often cuddled warmly down in friendly arms at night,
Still slowly, sleepily she croons, “F heart keep ‘ight.”
“If your heart keeps right,
If your heart keeps fight,
Every cloud will wear a rainbow
If your heart keeps right.”
The little song Virginia sings! How many times a day
We need to strike its cheerful note to brighten up the way
When things___just common, daily things- insist on going
wrong;
When burdens seem too great to bear, and trials over-long:
“If your heart keeps right,
If your heart keeps fight,
Every cloud will wear a rainbow
If your heart keeps right.”
