A whiff of the termites
the shavings, the moisture
the smell of sawdust
thick on the wood pile.
Out in the barn,
the thin walls bare
aged, frozen in time
under the stairs.
Heavy with memory
the smell of the sawdust
palpable, so real
hanging in the cold air.
