Lean over the fence and kiss? Not I!
If the tide leapt up to a kiss
The fence were a bar too low,
Or the kiss was a he!
And a kiss that’s a He is none
When everything’s said and done.
Lean over the fence and kiss?
Philander and play the fool?
Blood that is blood is hotter than this,
Or life were easy to school!
Lean over the fence and kiss? I? Never!
Scorn to your Safe-to-lean-over,
Half-and-half lover!
Give me the kiss that is all—
Or nothing forever.
