Better go your lone way
And let me go alone,
Let me sit with empty heart
And make no moan.
Something in the great world
Calls you from my side;
Something calls, and frets you
That will not be denied,
Something you cannot hide.
What is there to hold you
Heartbound with me?–
Nothing but a dull wife
And children three.
You were made to challenge
The world with your brain.
(God, take him quickly,
Before I die of pain!)
Better go your lone way,
And let me sit
With babies on my lap
Disremembering it.
