Through darkness and traffic,
I start each day;
On the miles to work,
I start to pray.
*****
I talk to you,
And continue to stare;
And look to the right,
And you’re not there.
*****
I keep on talking,
I’m losing my mind;
“That car almost hit me”,
He must be blind.
*****
Off the ramp,
I pull into work;
Where it’s much to early,
For anyone to lurk.
*****
“Would you like some coffee”,
I turn and ask you;
I sure would,
I’ll pour a cup too.
*****
I set down at the desk,
As the phone starts to ring;
Could this be you calling,
Or what today’s work will bring.
*****
As people pour in,
I forget for a while;
For sobbing over you,
Would cramp my style.
*****
The whistle blows,
And the work is on hold:
It’s time to return,
Where life is so cold.
*****
On the fight home,
I turn the radio on;
And sadness sinks in,
I realize you’re gone.
