In the city block,
right behind downtown
two might maples in their backyard
Walking home from school
dropping off the girls
a smile brightly on my face
he’s tapping his yard
Buckets ringing the trees
places just so
I wonder if he knows
how much work is in store
So many gallons
to get the sweet nectar
buckets and buckets of sap
for sweet, sweet syrup
