She was impure, no longer chaste
or so he thought; but trying to do
the honorable thing, under the law,
being noble when he didn’t have to
finding a way out, with less pain
But another path was for him,
framed by angelic voices
hearing a different call, a different way
to share our savior, be
a step-dad for God
Taking a child,
conceived by the Holy Spirit
His first-born not his own
Raised as his son
to be a servant
and a King
