Rug covered stairs
a landing above me
a place for the lead toy soldiers,
the ceramic cat,
small bottles
Playing by myself
in my grandparents’ home
A quiet special day out
on my own in their company
sharing precious time
vivid now decades hence
Tales of my dad’s youth
frozen in his room as a boy
rope pulley system
for the light’s chain
mounted still over his bed
Treasures in the attice
Her father’s desk
I now own
promised to me
that day
A nap by her side
after lunch of Ritz crackers in milk
My dear Jessie
magic lady of my heart
Thick glasses, but joy in her spirit,
with her flowers,
in her kitchen
