in the stillness of the sanctuary
my head bowed in prayer, but still
I could see your cross,
beams of light shining on the wood,
radiating outward into the world
a beacon of love, your sacrifice
Staring at your cross
bringing myself to that day at Golgotha
to that first Good Friday
thinking of the crowd, the jeers,
the betrayal, the abandonment
my abandonment of you,
for all those years.
Staring at the cross
through tear-filled eyes
my heart burning within me
Feeling your spirit warming me
Staring silently at your cross
