We are given a spirit of self-discipline
or so Paul would have us believe,
a spirit to lead the life we are called to live
not for its own reward, for we are not saved
by our good works. We are saved by grace
a gift of eternal life by the Savior
we are given a spirit of power, of love,
of self-discipline, to pay homage, to live rightly
for the Savior, for our fellows, our neighbors,
to do the work we are called for,
to make disciples, through the sharing
the telling of the Good News
around the globe
