Amiable sleep (this dream), harmonious thrills
soothing me ( when I’m dreaming that I dreamt ).
Honesty deceived, yet I will be the more content
the more (of) this actuality & truth it steals
O how agreeable to escape myself, to see what
I desire, long for… becoming mine.
Sweet pleasure! Though so strongly does it shine
it almost stirs–at times–a waking thought!
Sleep! filled with dreams, how much more tasteful,
lambent you’d have been had your inveiglement
descended on me deeper still, more keen, profuse…
At last mournfulness’ fled (in that dream,
lie’s shifting cradle), how fitting! to be content
there… one so unfortunate in levelled truth
