His hand, his heart outstretched
offering welcome, friendship
to each one of us
walking the new neighborhood
the main street of the village
entering in, walking
to make this place a home
a new neighbor before us
talking, sharing with us
a bit of his story
and we, in turn,
sharing our own
a cup of cold water,
of friendship for the stranger
soon becoming one of our brothers
one of our neighbors in our midst
