A pair of ruby slippers
sequined and well-worn
Old friends gingerly placed,
lovingly left for another day
I don’t know their owner;
but I have seen the smiles, the glee
I can imagine, from my own princesses
and their joy in dress-up
time when their wonder, magic
rubs off on me
Oh, I can imagine her so well
and the giggles that erupt
each time she slips them back on
