Life as we know it
hangs in the balance
if the predictions, the fear,
come to pass, if the ice
vanishes and the seas rise
if the wind blows warmer
where it is hot, wetter
where the floods come,
hotter all around
As he said in the news today
it is a planetary emergency
a systemic crisis
brought on by our hubris
our forgetting that dominion
means more than using up
the precious gifts of creation
that we are to be stewards
not only consumers
that the future is our responsibility
not just the present, our time
we must think and correct
the sins of the fathers
