Translated from Ariosto’s Orlando Furioso.
NOT far from hence a beauteous shrub is seen,
It’s flowers of rose shine sweetly on the green,
O’er liquid glass the lovely flow’ret bends,
While it’s kind shade a neighb’ring Oak extends.
So thick the foliage of the waving Trees,
No ray of light can penetrate the gloom;
The weary Traveller woos the fav’ring breeze,
And seeks the shade where smiling flowers bloom.
