Not our earth, the Lord’s
not our world, the creator’s
Ours over which to have dominion
responsibility, stewards, caretakers,
gardeners for the owner, tenants only
tending the garden in our time
Not our wealth, gifts from the creator
our lives, our jobs, careers, callings
all given. No self-made people here.
Our brothers, our sisters, neighbors all
calling out for our aid, for our compassion
to understand our connection
Their poverty, their hunger, ours too
our lives woven in history, in blood
common ancestors, down the chain of life
all are to sow, all to reap, all to tend the garden
All of us, our brothers’, our sisters’ keepers
this fragile, resilient earth, our home together
