All at once their hands met,
They both went weak in the knees.
A cannon thundered on screen,
A smokebank loomed over the field.
All at once their eyes met
And widened in the dark;
He said nothing at all
Nor did she, and yet
Death barged in on that show
So everything went dead, except these two
Watching and trembling, breathing
That fiery black air.
The angel blew his trumpet
To make the high vaults shake,
So stars came trembling down
Like a shower of gold on them both.
