Miss Wendy! Miss Wendy!
our three peal out across the driveway,
down the corridor, down the pew
using outside voices where inside would do
Suddenly happier than the instant before
A joy to see her, cling to her
be with her,
sit on her knee,
under the comforting crook of her arm
(if someone else’s child isn’t there yet)
Essential mother to so many
who will miss her
in ways big and oh so small
Hands to wrap their own,
so little it seems sometimes,
strong yet gentle
Safe with Miss Wendy
their teacher, their confidante,
Their friend.
