We needed the break
the change back from the heat
too soon for the eighties
scorched and hot
cloudbursts, sheets of rain
giving way to slow steady
soothing drops
washing the pollen, the grit,
the heat
from the leaves,
from the yard,
the air
flowers growing,
rising up
in the May showers
