Marked by the ashes, the stain of your offering
a reminder of the dust, the dirt from which we come
the ancient rituals, the ashes of the offering
humble before our God
falling at the altar, in the temple, before you
bringing a noble sin offering,
his body for our lives, consumed on the cross
to the earth he was returned, into the grave
marked by the earthly ashes
of the bodies we borrow
for we rise as he rose, as he is risen still
at the end of this journey
when it is our time to go
to return to the kingdom
where our spirit will live
