It was as if the synapses were growing
in my mind, as he spoke
He was, God was
connecting the dots,
creating the linkages, to enable me
enlighten me, to see the single message
in this week’s lectionary
All of them about a piece of the
same conundrum
the same dilemma
of man, to see the hidden message,
the true meaning, the name, the understanding,
the import of the words
who he was, what we are,
our weaknesses, our failings,
the harm of the words we choose,
that the maddening crowd uses
The wisdom we ignore, the reality shunned
even in the presence of the One
the stumbling block
that would be the rock, the connection
for us all to the divine
that unbroken chain of followers
but all too human
using words that fumble and hurt
rebuke even the unblemished,
the log blinding us
A message of this week, crystallized
in communion, in my pew
September 17, 2006 15:19

Psalm 19
