Holding his hand
as he retold the moment
in the way of her passing
on into eternity
Holding his hand
as she struggled in that moment
blinking I love you
yes, yes, I do
Their words with their eyes
lovingly together
so many years,
so many tears together
Holding her hand
telling her it was alright
that he would see her in heaven
when his work is done
Holding her hand
while she crossed over
entering paradise
as has been foretold
No longer in pain
no more suffering
redeemed and made whole
home with our Lord

Theodore “Ted” Louis Van Patten Sr.
describing his wife, Barbara Elaine Van Patten,
in the moment of her passing
from this world into paradise,
together, speaking with their eyes,
holding each other’s hand
