One thought, all other thoughts above,
Shall guide me wheresoe’er I rove,
Shall all my soul’s devotion move,
The blessed thought that “God is Love!”
Where’er my wandering footsteps stray,
Or in the broad or narrow way,
Whether at rest or roving still,
This blessed thought my soul shall fill.
I could not, if I would, remove
Myself beyond His precious love;
In highest heaven or deepest hell,
That love shall guard, and save, as well.
Ere, from the realms of nothing, I
Awoke to live, awoke to die, —
His love my destiny decreed,
And stooped to reach my greatest need.
Dear Saviour, blood-stained Calvary
Reveals Thy deathless love for me!
No longer shall my spirit rove,
Since this I know, that “God is Love.”
