Father and mother sleeping today,
Side by side in a country plot;
On a sunny hillside far away
Where the flowers bloom in the
meadow gay,
Close by their burial lot.
Sleeping in peace, awaiting the dawn
Of the day when God calleth His
children home.
Father and mother sleeping today,
Cares and trials all past,
Awaiting the call of the judgment
day
To gather them home at last;
Wrapped in the infinite love of God
Sleeping, yes sleeping, under the sod.
Angels guarding their narrow home
Know not the day when their Lord
shall come,
Yet a life of duty and service given
Truly secures them a home in heaven.
May I be sure that same home to
gain,
Then in God’s mercy meet them
again.
