I rose to ask a question
feeling unsure, a bit ill at ease
like Bob Cratchett asking for coal
or Oliver asking for more porridge
excuse me, your honor.
it was funny, his reaction
a sense, an awareness
of the absurdity of the formality
asking for a point of clarification
offering correction, refinement
precision in the writing,
the specific language
of the agreement.
I got a thank you.
