I am that Tamerlane,
The Scourge of God;
With me alone remain
The sword and rod
Wherewith in wrath throughout His world-domain,
Doth Love, avenging, reign.
I am that Joseph bound
And sold in vain;
From dungeon darkness found
To rise again,
At God’s right hand, whate’er of good redound,
His sole vice-gerent crowned.
