Nameless terror dogged his heel,
Little fears loomed large and black,
Till his head began to reel
And his manhood crack.
There was no place where he might
Hide his soul, conceal his hell:
If he ran to bury Fright,
He met Fright, live and well…
This cruellest pleasure Heaven,
Chastely smiling, can enjoy:
To see a man of twenty-seven
Just a frightened boy.
