Like any good gymnast,
she holds her arms just so
straight and taut
walking oh so carefully,
at least the first few feet
on the edge of the sidewalk,
up on the curbing, the granite edge
of the street
walking on the face of the beam
avoiding the sidewalk,
the drop to the street
Moving quickly down to the bus stop
for her older sister
Each afternoon
