A VOICE like the murmur of doves,
Soft lightning from eyes of blue;
On her cheek a flush like love’s
First delicate, rosebud hue;
Bright torrents of hazel hair,
Which, glittering, flow and float
O’er the swell of her bosom fair,
And the snows of her matchless throat;
Lithe limbs of a life so fine,
That their rhythmical motion seems
But a part of the grace divine
Of the music of haunted dreams;
Low gurgling laughter, as sweet
As the swallow’s song i’ the South,
And a ripple of dimples that, dancing, meet
By the curves of a perfect mouth;
O creature of light and air!
O fairy sylph. o’ th’ sun!
Hearts whelmed in the tidal gold of her hair
Rejoice to be so undone!
