When I saw him,
it made me think of him
the hat and coat
I had seen, the hat
I had worn, proud to share
the man I adored, admired
revered before all others
a quiet solitary man
on the deck of the sub
on watch, when his turn
stoic man, thoughtful man
careful, reckless man
on the edge
just above
the surface of the waves
on duty
on his bike
convertible
no helmet,
no belt
