If only they understood, really understood
that he wasn’t a threat; no, he wasn’t an earthly king
though he was flesh and blood. He was here for other things,
setting the stage for his rule, down the road of time
Not here to rule at that time, in that place; but
they misunderstood, were defensive, and acted
cutting short a life; but in fulfillment nonetheless
So in a way it wasn’t free will after all, or at least
not in a human understanding of it.
They were playing their parts;
making the choices he knew they would,
the choices written down long before,
by prophets who heard the words of the Lord
wrote them down, and waited, for the coming
of Elijah, for the coming of the King
Here he was; but they didn’t see.
The question is, “Would we?”
