In speaking of the herd
the behavior of elephants
the coming together
a moment of stillness
not merely of their sounds
that motion stopping
a stillness of body
something we can all emulate
In that moment of worship
that coming together
bowing our heads
entering into corporate prayer
In that sense of community
rare, sharing, grace
stilling ourselves
in this holy place
Reverence in our silence
in the stilling of our bodies
our minds open
to God’s voice for us
Listening in the silence
for the Lord’s speaking
often not the pastor’s words
but the voice, still, small
speaking from within
The Lord’s urgings
only heard then
when we like them
quiet ourselves
in loving community
