A branch, a twig, leafless
falls in the wintry wood
falling onto the snow,
leaving an impression
a mark of its presence
fleeting scar in the melting skin
of the forest floor,
like its ancient ancestor
which left an indelible mark
in the fossilized clay
This time, only
captured in my mind’s eye,
in the image in the camera,
tracks of the other citizens
of the wintry wood
