Was it for this that you drove your car
Through your enemies’ stern array,
Led by the slayer of Corman-Trunar ?
Ah ! did you fight in so many a fray,
Till your hair and your beard were grey,
And sink at last to a hero’s grave,
That some stranger might whisper, * Nay,
Only a fable is Fingal’s Cave ‘ ?
