The History of 4th of July

The American Revolution is one of the bloodiest conflicts to go down in history, many people sacrificed their lives so that America could be “Born” and people would be given their freedom. In April 1775, the Revolutionary War broke out and this instigated the colonies to get independence from Great Britain, at that time people who even considered this were deemed too dangerous to be left alive, their thoughts were considered to be very radical.

As time progressed, more and more colonists fueled the need for Independence following the barbarian tactics used by the British. Thomas Paine had a big contribution towards the Independence as his revolutionary sentiment expressed in the pamphlet “Common Sense” gained a lot of popularity.

Continental Congress, later on, met at the State House in Philadelphia on June 7. This is where Richard Henry Lee proposed a motion for Independence. It did not go well at first as there was some heated debate, later on, a five-man committee was formed that included the likes of Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Roger Sherman, Benjamin Franklin, and Robert R. Livingston.

Moving forward to July 2nd, the Continental Congress finally agreed to Richard Lee’s resolution. When the 4th of July finally came, the Continental Congress made it official by formally adopting the Declaration of Independence that was drafted by Jefferson. Although the resolution of Independence was passed on July 2nd, it came to an agreement on July 4th, that is the day when America got its Independence.
