Bill Belichick Quotes (217 Quotes)

We're going to approach this as a normal week. We're treating this week just like every other week this year in terms of our preparation for the game.

In 30-plus NFL seasons, I can tell you that some of the seasons where teams have undergone the most change or (face) what might be perceived as the most difficult circumstances turn out to be the best years.

I thought there were some good things defensively. It was nice to see the turnovers. I thought we played more competitively in the running game and on third down. But we've only been in camp for three weeks. It's not like we're three or four months down the road.

(That) has earned my respect for the entire organization.

I enjoy the competition of all the games. I love to coach and be in a competitive situation where we're up against the greatest players and the greatest coaches on a weekly basis. It's very challenging but it's very exciting, and thats true every week.

It's not like he isn't making mistakes, ... (but) he doesn't repeat them very often and he usually shows significant improvement on things that are covered. He understands and is able to get it right the next time.

I think that Nick has done enough in his opportunities this year in preseason and in training camp to earn some playing time. Whether that continues or doesn't continue, I don't know. That will be determined by the way he plays, the way other people play, and again, that just builds a little bit of our versatility.

What you need to think about it is, 'How do I defeat the guy who is assigned to block me' That's what defensive football really is about,

Patrick had some good plays, ... He's been doing that for us all year, and he did it again today.

Obviously, we're disappointed. We weren't able to make the plays we needed to make to win, that's why we didn't win.

I don't rate them, but he's pretty good. There really isn't much that he can't do. He's good in the passing game. He runs inside. He runs outside. He runs with power. He has a lot of speed. He turns short gains into long ones . . . he can throw it. I think he has a pretty good complement of skills.

Well, ... we know that if we have to put him over there that is an option. That is an emergency measure. Just like last year, we hope that we don't get to that.

(The Patriots did) a lot more wrong than we did right. I don't think we have enough time here to go through all of that. ... Bad coaching. Bad playing. Just bad football. And a lot of good football from Denver. When those two forces collide, then that's what you have 28-3.

In terms of really fooling (veteran quarterbacks like) Manning, (Dan) Marino, (John) Elway at this point in their career, they've seen every blitz, ... They've seen every coverage. They've seen every front. In terms of him standing back there scratching his head like, 'Well, I wonder what coverage that is.' I don't think that's really happening.

I support whatever Tedy does 100 percent. He's part of the family. We all love him. The comments that he made are consistent with what we talked about in the past, so we're going to proceed on that course.

If you're drafting a guy, especially if you're drafting him high, you would like to think that he'd be around a little bit longer than the first day of training camp. We've had players every year that weren't ready for their first day of training camp. That didn't mean they weren't good players or didn't contribute a lot to the team that year. I don't think that's the final evaluation.

He certainly deserves, and I'm sure will get, a good opportunity (elsewhere). He's going to be in the league. There's no question about that.

What geniuses in the NFL came up with that ... Someone's got too much time on his hands.

And Poole, who hurt his ankle, is one of our best-conditioned athletes, ... He's working hard to be back.

Guys that you know you're going to have to make a decision on (soon), you better figure out what extra information you can get between now and then to help you with that decision.

Arrowhead is a tough place to play, ... Being able to deal with the hostile crowd, the noise and the conditions out there is always challenging.

I don't think we had any major problems on the offensive line. We were all at the game. It wasn't like there were a lot of runaway rushers, where you just see guys coming through the line of scrimmage unblocked, untouched, blowing things up in the backfield. There were times when we got pushed back. There were times when we pushed them a little bit. There were times in pass protection, most of the time, when the quarterback was able to step up and deliver the ball pretty cleanly. In relative terms, it was OK. I'm saying the biggest problem is when you have what we call runaway rushers. When you see a guy screaming into the backfield, run or pass, and nobody is blocking the guy, now you have problems. You certainly want to avoid that.

It was pretty much a replay of the Denver game. We spotted them the lead early and it was too much to make up against a good team. We just got too far (behind) too early and it was too far to come back from.

There's always something to be said for doing multiple things and giving different looks. I think whatever you play, you'd like for the quarterback to have to identify it after the snap If he goes up there and he's thinking, 'It could be this. It could be that. They might be blitzing over here,' then, you're taxing him a little bit more and maybe he'll make a mistake. Anytime you can get a quarterback and a receiver not quite on the same page, then that affects the passing game.

We'll have to either make the roster moves and then start the preparations, or start the preparations and then have the roster moves somewhere intermingled in there a little bit with what would be our normal practice week.

He's been healthier this year, ... He's been out there every day. He's got a lot of reps so his technique and timing are better. Tom's a smart guy. He's worked hard to improve his overall body strength since we got him. And he's pretty athletic.

We've got the same amount of time that Jacksonville has to prepare for the game, so we're on a level field there. We just have to do a better job. You've got to play your best football in January. It's that time of year.

It's been a while since I've seen a more dominating team than what Pittsburgh has been in these first two regular-season games. They really haven't been in a competitive game. ... They're the best team in the league this year.

It was kind of like basketball. We were playing for the last shot there. If we make it, we make it. If we don't, time expired and we're in overtime.

Dean Pees has done an outstanding job coaching our linebackers. When he joined us, Dean brought a wealth of experience into this system and has been a significant part of our success over the past two seasons.

We'll try to use the preseason as well as training camp to help evaluate that mix, ... Not just individually, but collectively, the groups working together and kind of what looks like the best combination and that type of thing.

Of course, the offensive line functions very well together. It just really grows on you. The more you watch them, the more in sync they seem to be. There are very few spaces in their plays. Everything is pretty tightly fit together.

They'll be starting from a much higher point in terms of experience and background in our system, knowing what it takes to play in the league and all that. I think they came in at a very mature level. To avoid the second year not being as good as the first, I think they have to maintain their work ethic and attitude, desire, aggressiveness, all of those things that gave them a chance to be successful this year.

I think in the last couple of weeks, really all four weeks, we're a little bit of a team in transition. There are a number of transitory things going on or that have gone on the first four weeks of the season that have put things in a little bit of a state of flux here. They weren't what they were a month ago. Some of them aren't like they were two weeks ago. Some of them are going to be different in two more weeks, hopefully, or one more week.

We had a couple of turnovers early in the first half, but bounced back offensively and we were able to get some points on the board. And our defense came up with some big plays.

We're not defending anything. We're not repeating anything. Nothing that happened in the past really has any bearing on (this year). Don't get me wrong. I'm respectful of what this organization has accomplished . . . but none of that really has any bearing on anything we do.

Overall, there are still a number of things we can do better. We had problems with penalties in the first half, no question about that. We weren't as sharp as we need to be in execution or in terms of assignments.

I have so much respect for Keenan and I'm really proud to have coached him. I'm not saying that I developed his career or anything, I don't mean it that way, but I mean just what he brought as a player, his work ethic, his attitude . . . He's really a special guy.

He's a good decision maker. He can take information, analyze it and make a decision. He has a lot of confidence, communicates well and has a good relationship with everybody he works with.

Some of the things we had problems with the first two weeks I thought we did a little better. I thought the 'fits' were a little better in the front seven.

You cant create players. You have to draft the board based on what your options are. As soon as you start taking players truly based on need, if they cant fill that need, then you have to come back the next year or the next pick and youre drafting again f

He has some experience. We felt like what our needs were and what our options were, that he was the best fit. He's had some experience. He's good running the ball. He's built like Kevin. Not the same, but similar. Short, thick, strong, legs, good balance. He's probably had more production running than receiving, but I think he can also be in the passing game.

He's unique in the fact that he is a very powerful inside runner. He is a strong guy, a big kid that can run through people,

Patriots officials had little reaction Saturday morning to a possible tampering incident. There's really nothing I can say about it, ... I have no comment.

I dont have much to add at this point. Our medical people are going to take a look at them. Well find out all the information we can and well update it Wednesday.

He's big. He's athletic. He's strong. He is very smart, so he can handle a lot of multiple responsibilities and he is flexible enough athletically to be able to do a number of things. He can block bigger people. He has a variety of skills.

All aspects of it need to improve. It extends to all 11 guys on the field. The running game, it's a team play.

I've talked to Ty, but we never talked about any contract or anything like that.

I thought he did some good things. There are some other things that could have been better.
