I have seen the dumb men throng to see him and
The blind to hear him speak; matrons flung gloves,

Upon him as he pass'd; the nobles bended
As to Jove's statue, and the commons made
A shower and thunder with their caps and shouts.
He pass'd the flaming bounds of place and time The living throne, the sapphire blaze, Where angels tremble while they gaze, He saw but blasted with excess of light, Closed his eyes in endless night.
Strange, is it not? That of the myriads who Before us pass'd the door of Darkness through, Not one returns to tell us of the Road Which to discover we must travel too.
