Who ever thought up the word Mammogram Every time I hear it, I think I'm supposed to put my breast in an envelope and send it to someone
the day I found out, the day I got my mammogram and the doctor told me I had breast cancer, it was mid-November.
And I would urge all women to have that regular mammogram.
I really think that this can encourage women when they're driving around, to see this license plate and to think 'have I gone in for my mammogram this year' And if not, maybe it will allow them to think twice that they should go in for that.
CDPHP recommends women have their first mammogram by age 40 and then every one to two years thereafter. Knowing that the data backs the success of these screenings, women should feel empowered to take control of their health.
The medical community has us believing that if you get a yearly mammogram, and that mammogram does not show cancer, you're cancer-free. I'm proof that that's not the case.
It is not a death sentence. The fatalistic view we often find is so wrong. If you don't have funds to pay for a mammogram, they, you have no excuse not to get one.
Driving to Knoxville to get a mammogram is just not priority for the lady who is in Wartburg trying to make a living and keep food on the table.
Breast cancer deaths in America have been declining for more than a decade. Much of that success is due to early detection and better treatments for women. I strongly encourage women to get a mammogram.
