Stuart Appleby Quotes (68 Quotes)

We kept them close on the Americans' home soil. There's no doubt in the future we can take this thing out.

Absolutely. What I'm trying to do is get better at having a well-rounded game. I know that that quality of golf is going to put me in contention more often, and that's really what it is about -- being in contention.

To separate yourself from a bunch of other very, very good players -- more than likely playing some really good golf -- is going to be very difficult. What Tiger did at Pebble Beach a few years back was unheard of.

That's just the level of play today. To separate yourself from a bunch of other very good players, more than likely you're playing some really good golf (or) it's going to be difficult.

To have a comfortable victory has never left my lips. It was nice to know, coming down the last part of the day that things were in hand.

It worked out nice last year because I stayed over there, then we played the Heineken Classic (in Melbourne), then I came back and played the end of the West Coast Swing.

I never got to the point of needing drugs or thinking about giving up myself.

Certainly a huge dose of respect you've got to throw at a lot of the putts downhill, even from 3, 4, 5 feet. Nothing you can hit aggressive. They've got a fair dose of speed, more than they had in previous years.

You can't run away from the pack if you aren't running away from it. Running away would be six shots up with six holes to play. That would be pretty much a run away. There is a lot of golf, 25 of the tournament still left out there.

I don't remember too many rounds where you get shots given to you. Usually, ones are taken away.

If anyone gets to double figures, that would be excellent golf.

I would like to have shot lower, but it was pretty trying out there. The wind was as strong as I've ever seen it. You just weren't going to see a low score.

We don't have much Mexican food, and we don't have any border patrol. Tasmania is probably the nearest thing to a foreign country.

I like the wind. Australia is a pretty windy place, but certainly nothing like this. I haven't seen the weekend forecast, but I'd say if anyone got to double figures (under par) that would be excellent golf.

When we come over here, we're certainly very proud to represent our country.

There needed be another dose of that throughout the years and there hadn't been. Winning now, twice, puts that emotional feeling at a higher level. Once is nice, twice certainly shows and proves to you that what you're doing works.

Winning gives me a dose of confidence to keep moving and do the things that really work. Winning is a very positive thing, and that's why I want to carry it on and take it to the next level.

The par-five I made a nice little five-foot birdie putt. That was a sneaky one down the hill. Then I chipped in from over the back of the green on six. It was a very difficult chip and it went in. That was a very fortunate shot there because I really was thinking four would be a good score to walk away with, so three was a bonus.

The Masters is a very important tournament. You don't want to jeopardize your chances. The sponsors understand that.

It's a good idea, though, ... Maybe I should try that out.

Greg has done a huge amount for Australian golf, ... I don't think he can make a huge difference now.

Everything is just so condensed here. You couldn't fit nine holes of golf on this place from last week's layout not even that, six holes if you're lucky. It is very claustrophobic and small. So, you have to be more accurate. I haven't been accurate enough in tee shots andor greens, but I've managed to hide that through scrambling.

There's probably plenty of guys happy to see him down the leaderboard for a change. I don't think you're going to get some, 'Oh, I'm so sorry. What a pity.' You guys can write about someone else for a change.

There's a lot of golf, 25 percent of the tournament still left out there. I might be leading - but that only means that I'm leading.

I was slightly disappointed, but also encouraged, because I put myself in position to win a major, which is all even Tiger says he tries to do.

I drove the ball well, hit the middle of the club face a lot of times, good club selection generally in tricky conditions, and here we are.

I'm trying to play well all the time. I think that's an addictive thing you want to get into and you keep going and keep playing until it gets out of tune.

If a cow walked into this room, I'd probably walk out. I could milk it, but my dad never forced me to do a lot of chores like that, mostly because he loved doing it himself.

I hit driver down No. 9. I didn't have the best lie and I didn't have maybe the best swing at it, but I hit it pretty good. I hit it like 150 yards and that was a two-iron. Sometimes you're just guessing how many clubs you think you need to add to the shot versus the yardage. That's really what it is, guessing the right amount of wind and hoping that you pull it off. It's not a science when it gets like that out there.

After the Presidents Cup I had two weeks off, followed by a tournament, the Australian Open, followed by another week off, a week of practice and then came here. There wasn't like a big cross through December where there was no golf.

I think the brain didn't quite communicate with the same confidence to where I thought I actually hit it. Normally when I hit a putt, I make it. Once you get them near the hole you just have to roll them in.

I'm happy to concede defeat. It's a two-horse race now.

I wanted a second opinion. That's what I pay him for, I guess. I knew where I was. I just wanted to hear it from his lips.

I was a pretty long hitter when I was younger. I was pretty wild, too. I had to learn to control the ball a bit more. Then last year, I decided to open up a bit more and I gained a good climb in distance. My length has grown due to some confidence in my swing, and some trusting. Once you get that, you can open it up a bit.

When the wind blows like it did on the back nine today it can add at least three strokes to your round. There can be a fine line between looking brilliant and looking like an idiot. But Chad put the ball in very good places all day. He looked brilliant.

I was from the bush, watching Greg Norman on TV, but it was a world away.

I think it's about the wind and breeze. It's a little bit like Australia.

Not everyone believes distance is everything. I think the only way you really honestly can say that driving (accuracy) is not important is when you putt well, ... It's the putter that does the talking. That's the one that really puts a score on a card. You are not hardly going to win many tournaments hitting it in the rough. You are going to have to putt unbelievably well.

You keep thinking when you're throwing a dart, it's just going to keep hitting the middle of the bulls eye. No matter, you throw left-handed or one-eyed or whatever, you just feel comfortable that things are very much within you.

I can certainly see how people are overcome by depression.

I think that there was definitely a 6-under score had to be had out there by somebody. I was fortunate enough where my round wasn't clean and perfect, but there were enough shots where I hit it good enough to give myself opportunities and I had a couple of good breaks.

That was as anxious as I got today. That was me panicking.
