Scott Linehan Quotes (102 Quotes)

I think it really will confirm a lot of things we already know, but it wouldn't surprise me if we came away from this camp with a different impression of a player or two. It could be positive, too. It's not always a negative impression. Somebody could catch our eye and be a pleasant surprise.

We've still got a long way to go. There's still a lot of unknowns with our team. We've just got to continue to evaluate what's available (in free agency) and whether it's a good fit for us.

We're in a similar position in trying to turn things around. The coaching staff there (Miami) has done a wonderful job with that transformation and changing the culture and attitude of the team. Those are some of the things that are going to have to be addressed here.

He's probably one of the most exciting guys I've seen in recent memory. He's a two-headed monster with the things he can do, and he can do the same things at the next level. He changes the game just by being on the field.

It's like in baseball being strong up the middle. You have inside guy, a middle linebacker and a safety. It's a pretty good place to start.

That throwing motion thing is way overrated. I think your anticipation and your ability to get the ball in the receiver's hands is the key more so than the motion. He's a proven player and I think he's a guy who can go help whoever takes him and be very effective. He's proven it.

You know how it is. It's the business. It's the other team. They've got a different-colored jersey now.

We would never do anything like that. You know what's funny about that It's virtually impossible to do that with the speed of the game, and how you've got to call the (offensive) plays.

It feels kind of like kickoff. I can tell you, I am pretty excited about this opportunity.

Obviously, we were in a pretty good position anyway. But it doesn't hurt, let's put it that way.

Obviously, I'm pretty sold and convinced that the guy can do it. And I think he felt the same way about coming to play for us. Having a prior relationship with these players is important. It certainly doesn't hurt.

They probably say that every year. I've never really understood that. When we get to 11, 10 players will have been drafted. So it'll be an 11-player draft when we get there.

We want to be aggressive, we want to be dominant, we want to be relentless and we to play 60 minutes as a team, not just as an offense.

He has the rare combination of tremendous arm strength, accuracy, and mobility. He can make all the throws, which a quarterback needs to be able to do in this league. Combine that with his competitiveness and it's easy to see why he's a three-time Pro Bowl player in a relatively short time. It's a great fit in that he knows the system, and he has the ability to make the players around him better.

He's the tallest 5-11 receiver I've ever been around. He really is. Because of his wing span, and his ability to jump, I think people find that they got more than they bargained for when they play him. He plays so much bigger than he is.

They were anxious (days). But it's been great. I can't say enough about John (Shaw) and Jay (Zygmunt). They've gone about this very professionally. I've had a very good attitude about it and felt I was in a win-win situation, but knowing all along that it would be a dream come true to have the opportunity to do this. I'm really pleased to have this chance, and I can't wait to get started.

It's still about making a good decision. We all want to have the Reggie Bush's of the world on our football team, but it's not reality.

I just finished coaching three days ago. I'm now in a different phase here. I'm sure they're going to do a thorough job and you've got to respect that. I'm in no hurry to make a decision one way or another.

He hit it pretty good. I liked his leg and decided to sign him.

Culpepper acknowledged that he was angered ... I don't think our offense will miss a beat.

You can throw a screen pass, a three-step drop pass on one play, turn around on the next play and take a five-step drop and throw the ball 60 yards down the field and feel like it's just as much part of the system. He knows how to read defenses very well.

Even though there was a cut that was made, it doesn't mean in my mind that we're not going to get a deal done. So I feel very positive about resuming talks, and getting that uniform back on our guy. We'll do everything we can to make that happen.

(It's a) controversial pick, I understand that. We were looking at the player in the first round for about a week. That is an issue.... (But) you get into the third round and say, 'That guy is still one of the best tackles we've seen all year.

I've talked to him. The bottom line is, this is voluntary every year. You can't make a player do it. I'm very careful about making sure we adhere to that. But there is a standard that we've got to make sure we hold our players to. ... Our job is to change the culture of the team. And if you're not here, it's hard to sell that. Obviously, he hasn't been here, but he's going to be. I would hope it would be better from here on out, once he gets here.

The word is, he'll be here the first part of next week.

There were some really good surprises in this camp as far as guys that may have been a question mark that we now feel better about than we started camp. There are also a few areas of concern as far as our depth that we're going to have to address at some point in the draft or free agency.

My thing is that we're out there to get our work done, and we're not wasting any time between drills. The tempo will be established right away.

Obviously, we've got to have a contingency plan, but I'm going from the standpoint that we're going to get it done. We'll address that if we have to. To me, that's down the road. ... We're talking about a guy that to me you don't replace.

It's like giving up a dog or something. I can't give that away.

I haven't talked to Minnesota. Certainly, I'm fortunate to have anybody interested. I don't get into whether they're going to call or not. I'm happy to be here, to be honest with you.

It was a fluke deal. It wasn't anything that's a concern for us now it was just a bad-luck injury.

Free agency right now is the focus our own free agents first, and then we'll move toward what could help us at certain positions. We'll rank them and put together our priority list. We'll try to address some needs. And then we'll focus on the draft.

Nothing serious. The older you get, the more time it takes just to kind of get them back to 100 percent. You've got to manage them.

He's certainly got the build for it. He's a big body that can be very explosive and play that position. I think our defensive coaches are creative enough to pull that off.

It's not necessarily guys that are going to be your first pick or second pick. It might be people down the list a little bit. Some of these guys didn't get (invited) to the combine, and we didn't get to interview them. This is the only way we can get them, so I think that's a positive thing.

So we're going to be interviewing two or three candidates in the next four or five days and make sure they fit the requirements we have to coach our system and our defense.

If you're getting ready to play Vince Young, you know you've got a two-headed monster. He's proven to me that he can throw it, as well as be able to run around and make plays. He's one of the most exciting players to come out in recent memory. He hasn't really even tapped into some of the things I think he's going to be able to do at the next level.

This is all a good story. I hope he's a good running back.

You saw flashes last year. Ronnie got a little banged up at the end of the year and would've easily had 1,000 yards as a rookie. He's really a complete back and I think he could play every down. That guy's going to be a force to be reckoned with for years, I guarantee you that.

Those are some of the things that are going to have to be addressed here and hopefully those would be some of the lessons I've been able to learn and maybe draw upon for this franchise.

Fisher had an excellent camp. He competed. He stepped up to the challenge. I think he knew we were challenging him to see where he was. I'm sure the entire secondary feels like they are being challenged based on how they played last year. They have a chip on their shoulders, and they all came to work with an idea that they have something to prove.

I knew Corey there. He started 64 games there during four years. He's one of those guys that doesn't come off the field.

We were very tempted. A lot of the guys we had up there gone before we were able to pick them. When you get into that third and fourth round, there were some really good players who fly off that board.

It was a stroke of luck that we were able to get Jim. We won't have him for long. He'll be a head coach in this league again.

I told (Rams President for Football Operations) Jay (Zygmunt) that we needed to get someone today that can catch him.

It'll be great for all of us. We've been kind of bottled up in the building. We can't see the light of day.

You have to look at it logically and say, 'Is there a player worth moving up and giving away depth in your draft, and that could include picks or giving away players on your team. Trading up, trading back, if that doesn't seem to work, we will stay right

He certainly hasn't lost anything in his arm strength and his ability. He had his career-best season as far as touchdown passes were concerned last year (in Miami). I've got a great working relationship with him, and he does a great job of working hand in hand with the starter. And that's what was important to me in this position.

This is an exciting sign for us. This particular player became available, fortunately for us, just prior to the weekend (in) a big need area for us. He's going to fit a big part of what we're trying to get done here, and add some veteran leadership, as well as his obvious playing ability on the defensive front.

We have to really start putting a lot of time into our evaluation of college players. We've put a lot of time into the pro side because of free agency and how fast it works. Now we have to say, 'Is this player better than a young player we can get in a draft' A lot of those discussions will get started now.
