He was okay. When he got out of whack, he made a few adjustments to get back in the zone. We like the way the ball is coming out of his hand.

It's another disappointing loss for us. The guys are battling. We've got to win games, and we're going to try as hard as we can. I expect this team to go out full bore and win. We'll never stop trying to do that.

He's got the contract thing, the whole package. When you're in your contract year, you start thinking about it. Guys that can play a little bit usually get after it pretty good. We figured he'd be on a pretty good mission.

Baker threw the ball great. He pitched very well in some big games.

Then he faced Minnesota on Aug. 9, giving up five hits and no runs in a 1-0 victory. I don't think we're talking about poise here, ... I think we're talking about a 97-miles-per-hour fastball and a curveball from hell.

I personally think he handles himself good when he's out there. He's a little more relaxed. Third base is a hot spot. He handled it fine, he did fine, but I think he handles playing out there a lot better.

I think he's been just missing some balls. I can show you struggling, if you want to see some highlights. He's really close to whacking it pretty good. I don't worry about him. He's a veteran. He knows how to hit.

He's hasn't told me he needs to be shut down yet. We're playing him. As long as you can play. Everybody has issues this time of year -- believe me. Everybody is hurt. Everybody is playing hurt. If you're not, you probably didn't play very hard.

I'm kind of spinning a little bit, to tell you the truth.

That was kind of ugly. That's a little disappointing. Like I told you, that's why we haven't named our staff yet, because you never know what's going to happen.

Radke is going to be in the rotation, Silva is going to be in the rotation, Lohse is going to be in the rotation and we're just trying to get them through it. We're in the first month of the season, so you've got to keep giving these guys the ball. What they've done around here and how well they've done around here for such a long time, you just have to keep giving them the ball.

We had good at-bats from the sixth inning on. We really pushed the issue, kept battling and got a lot of two-out hits.

We did the best we could today and the game was ... whatever. It was a game. But this organization and the players involved here, our hearts and prayers are with Puck and his family.

I'll try to find a way to get him back in there tomorrow.

I'm sure Minnesota Twins fans are hurting. It's very painful right now. We all know where Puck's going to be He's going to be up there whacking the ball in Heaven. So we're going to be OK.

You don't think too many performances could top what Santana was throwing, but watching Nathan go out there and strike out the side with the bases loaded was pretty good, too.

He just didn't make enough pitches today. He was all around the zone but he just missed. He was barely missing, but when you get behind these guys, those types of hitters, that's what happens.

Oh my, ... If you're going to give up a homer, you might as well give it up like that. That was a long one. The fan couldn't even throw it back on the field.

That's our Achilles' heel all year long. We've got one of the best pitching staffs in baseball and offensively, we just can't support them. That's why we're in the position we're in in our league, our division and this Wild Card race.

It didn't feel good, so that's a little scary. A groin muscle can last who knows how many days. He's one of the guys we count on off the bench to pinch-run, and that is our speed guy off the bench. We don't really have much off the bench as speed guys go, besides him.
