    There's no excuses, because those things happen in basketball. We're just going to have to learn how to play with a short bench, because that's how it's going to be the rest of the way.

    We need to move on. We have some injuries, we lost some games we probably should have won, but you can't worry about that. Our most important games are coming up, and that's in the league.

    We got two tough games coming up, but if we get them both, we're right back in the hunt. It's a long way from over.

    They got nothing to play for, but that means they could be the spoilers. And they're good enough to knock off anybody.

    If you have to have one or the other you'd take the second half, as long as you don't get too far behind. It was a little scary, because it was pretty ugly when they were up 14.

    It's a tough match-up for us. That's why this loss (to Louisiana Tech on Saturday) was so big. We win and we're playing (No. 6) Boise State instead.

    Early in the season, there was a lot of separation, because he didn't think defense coming out of junior college. Now he's right with the guy, tracking hard and getting out in him. And our big guys are helping him, and he recovers better than he did.

    I thought our post defense was good tonight. We didn't give them a whole lot of easy stuff until late. Overall, I thought it was a good man defense.

    He was a monster in there. We fought hard, we tried. But we just didn't have enough.

    You want to have competition at every spot. Hopefully the guys you bring in are good enough to push the guys we have coming back.

    You have to be good, but you have to be lucky, too. And you have to believe. You have to go in with the attitude that you can win it.

    You had two freshmen (Hiram Thompson and Dominic Waters) in there together and we weren't able to rest some of the other guys and I think it caught up to us in the second half. I think we lost a little bit of control of the game right there at the end (of the first half).

    If you're on the other end of it, you say that. I've said it because there are six or seven teams coming in here without another game tacked on like normal. We complained amongst ourselves about it and won every game. That's just one of our natures as coaches. That's the way the league is and sometimes you get an advantage and sometimes you don't. You have to take advantage of the advantage by winning.

    They had the hustle, they had a good game plan, and they beat the ... out of us. That's all I can say.

    They've really held together, grown as a team. They take coaching, they have worked hard in practice to improve their games, individually and (as a) team, and they like each other and play together.

    This team works better than other teams we've had in the past as far as improving themselves on the court, and the attitude is always positive. But this team has its own personality, and unfortunately, it's a passive one.

    He missed a couple shots he doesn't normally miss so maybe that part of the strategy worked.

    It was important for everybody to get some time in there tonight because the fatigue factor was there.

    I figured they would come out flat after getting blown out, but they come back and beat a very good Nevada team. Now we know we're going to have our hands full.

    That's the breaks. Some years you get injuries and other problems, and this is one of those years for us. We haven't been bothered by it too much in the past, so maybe it's all catching up to us now.

    It's the coaches who vote for it, so they know how valuable Julian is. And he's had the season we were hoping for from him, so he deserves it.

    I'm embarrassed that you had to watch that and I'm embarrassed that we performed like that. You've got to give Nevada credit. I guess we stirred them up a little bit beating them at our place.

    They don't make many mistakes and that's what makes them successful.

    That makes it even tougher for us. You have to win three games in three days, and we're not going to have that deep bench like the other teams.

    The seniors have led the way, there's no question about that. There was a time during the year when we lost a couple games that they could have gotten down, but they never did that. They just went to work and really kept it going. It all starts at the top with the leadership.

    We came in here focused and ready to win, but we just broke down in our game plan in the middle stretches there and let them get away.

    When you talk about good attitude and working hard, start with him.


    It's a shame for it to happen anytime. But this late in the season makes it even more of a shame.

    We're not giving up. We think we have a shot. We're going in there with the thought we can win this thing.

    That's the coach's fault because I should have gotten him out of there probably around the 10-minute mark for a couple minutes rest. He was tired, in his defense there.

    I don't want to see him get another 37 and 15, especially at home where the crowd will get behind him. We're looking at some double-teams, maybe some zone. It depends how the game goes.

    San Jose is a better ball club. They played much more competitive in the league. We'll have a tougher game (tomorrow) than we did tonight.

    I'm happy for his 400th. I just didn't want it to be against me, you know But at least by being here I can congratulate him in person and don't have to send him a letter or make a phone call.

    He got my vote. You can say Nevada was expected to win the league, but sometimes it's harder to stay on top.

    I hope that monkey died and doesn't affect anybody else.

    They give us size at every position, and that's our advantage. But it's not just that. They all run the floor well and can play above the rim.

    We'll worry about that when it comes around. I don't know much about them right now.

    This is it. We have to win some more games if we want to keep playing.

    I stayed with them because we were in foul trouble. I went as long as I could with it, and then went back to our big zone.
