Peyton Manning Quotes (126 Quotes)

Last week people were kind of making a big deal, ... I overthrew it a couple times. The real mind-set is to finish drives into the end zone, and we did that today. And that really was the difference.

It's like that look your wife gives you that says, 'OK, it's time to go. It's time to go now ,' ... Marvin will give me that look, 'I'm getting out of this 5-yard slant pattern.' And we both know what's going on. Because we're both seeing the same thing.

I'm disappointed. It will be more disappointing tonight and tomorrow. It takes time to move on from a game like this and make your peace with the football gods and get ready for next season.

We've put a lot of time and effort into it, ... It's going on seven and a half years now. That's a lot of off-seasons, lots of mini-camps, lots of training camps. Marvin and I don't miss practice, either, and it's paid off for us. I'm very proud to share it with Marvin.

Let's see. You've got a card game going on over there, somebody's reading a book over there.

They (the Red Cross officials) said morale is low right now, so basically we said that we were coming. This is our hometown that's been affected, and we wanted to help.

Everyone wants to win their first game, and everyone wants it to be just like college, but it's not,

I'm going to be a good teammate here. We had a few protection problems. It will be more disappointing tomorrow. It certainly takes time to move on from a game like this.

I was happy we were able to get a little rhythm going there in the first half. We had a good mix of the run and the pass and the play-action. We had some good drives.

They are staying pretty deep (with their safeties) and you have to be able to make them pay for that with the good running game.

I think we've surprised some teams with our patience this year, ... In the past, we've been a throw the ball down the field offense because that's what defenses have allowed us to do. ...That's the nice thing about this offense and (coordinator) Tom (Moore) and his play calling. We usually call what's working. Games are shorter now. We're having longer drives.

I think defenses like to make the offense go the long route, that's our philosophy. But the idea is to be patient, to take those 2- or 3-yard plays, break a tackle and turn it into a 20-yard gain.

We don't have games where we take teams lightly. We don't do that. We would have liked to have played perfect, scored every single time, not given up a rushing yard, but we won 28-3. We'll learn from the film and we'll get better, just like we always do.

Obviously, being the first game of the season, there will be a lot of talk about it. Eli and I are very close. And at the same time, everybody puts a lot of emphasis on the first game. Tom Coughlin is going to get his guys ready, and I know we'll be ready.

Okay, it's my turn to bitch about something. Everyone places so much importance on having the playoff bye week. Well, we got it weeks ago, but now everyone thinks we've had too much time off. But the bye week is secondary to home-field throughout. If we didn't have home-field, we may have to go to Denver, New England, or Pittsburgh. It's chilly in those places. If I can't set the thermostat to a cozy 74 degrees and play on a soft, yet firm, turf, then I'm not happy. 'Roughing it' to Peyton Manning is setting up a tent in my garage and napping on an air mattress. If I even hear about snow in New England, I wet my pants.

I think offensive coordinator Tom Moore kind of had it in his mind that he wanted to throw deep on the first play,

The sad thing is, he's a good kicker. He's a good kicker, but he's an idiot.

I think we're more of a team and kind of feed off each other, ... It's definitely the best camaraderie we've had since I've been here eight years.

It just shows you he's tuned in during the week of practice and he's into the game plan. He knows the plays and that's what you like.

This is mostly the fantasy guys asking me that and asking how we're feeling this year. 'How many are you going to throw,' ... You can tell by the tone of their voice if you don't throw over 50, it's going to be a bad season.

I don't think you necessarily turn it on and turn it off. The key in the playoffs is to make the plays at crucial times.

Mike and I did that on purpose to win it like that, ... Seriously, and we haven't been lying to you, it has been a closed book on the topic since February.

We're committed to find kids in need and give them a hand.

It was appropriate it ended that way, ... The great catch over the shoulder, dragging his feet. He's done it so many times.

We've got to go back and try to correct some of these things that need to get fixed, ... Certainly they are correctable. A lot of times, it's a little thing here that doesn't go right and that affects the whole play.

I cannot argue with the truth or try to counter any point. That's a fact. It's disappointing when you don't win the game. That's the simple fact.

We haven't had a lead on these guys in quite some time.

Pittsburgh came in here and played better than us. It's hard to admit that and it's hard to accept that, but unfortunately that is the truth.

It feels kind of like college when you're losing your seniors. I liked our team this year. I liked our guys.

They weren't letting us pass downfield, ... It used to be teams wouldn't let us run the ball, and we had to throw. Now it's the opposite. They won't let us pass.

I feel one of the most significant honors a player can have in his sport is to have his number retired. Certainly for me to have that at Tennessee, it's with great pride.

This will really tell the tale of what kind of team we are, what kind of team we have, starting on Monday, ... This is why you play in the N.F.L., to be in games like this.

I'm looking for a safe word here, I don't want to be a bad teammate. Pittsburgh gave us trouble and put us in some situations we're not usually in.

The best thing about Marvin, and it's something I've always had, it's the trait of recall, ... Some guys don't remember last week's plays, much less plays from 1999 or 2000. But Marvin does. He doesn't just remember touchdown passes. He'll remember a 7-yard gain on a third-and-4 against Buffalo a few years back.

It's an honor and privilege to be able to call Marvin a teammate, ... He's an outstanding player. He and I have combined for a lot of touchdowns and a lot of wins, but it's because of a lot of hard work. He has a tremendous work ethic, and I feel privileged to call him teammate.

I don't want to be saying this every single press conference after a playoff loss. Sooner or later, you run out of years, and there is no next year.

We have to be able to run the ball. I could count the number of one-on-one (passing) situations on my right hand.

It's three times as tough on these kids as it was when I was their age, which wasn't that long ago. So many temptations, so many different people pulling on them out there. I'll tell them to try to lean on the people that can help you, the Boys Girls Club counselor, your guidance counselor at school, a teacher, a parent.

I remember telling the guys on the sideline, 'Hey, guess what We only have to get a field goal,' ... For the first time all game, that's all we needed. It was kind of like a relief. Before, we had to get touchdowns every time we were out there.

I get a lot of fan mail and I can tell you the Japanese fans are very knowledgeable about the NFL, ... I'm looking forward to walking around and seeing some of this great city.

I just hope it gets here before I run out of eligibility,

It's really about making the plays when they're there. Obviously, we do that a lot, otherwise you wouldn't win 12 games two years in a row. But usually four or five plays determine a game.

You'll never forget the rest of your life the 2006 Final Four right here in Indianapolis. I want to encourage you to soak it up in walk through, in shoot around, being in the hotel, hanging out with your teammates, the fans, the whole world watching on TV CBS.

You hear about how many fourth quarter comebacks that a guy has and I think it means a guy screwed up in the first three quarters.

I pray for the people and that city every night. It was hot in the news for a while, but you hope people haven't forgotten. Rebuilding is a long-term thing.

Tackles and quarterbacks certainly know what number he is, where he is, what side he's on,

Coach (Dungy) kind of points that stuff out, what they're capable of offensively, what they're capable of defensively, ... So you realize they're capable of scoring a lot of points and we may have to score a lot of points, too.

There's no question the last three years have been the three best of my career. To do it three years in a row, I take a lot of pride in that and I've had some good coaching and some good help.

I bet Eli doesn't even have one touchdown today, ... I'm the best Manning.

We need some other things to happen. But it's nice to have hope.
